Session

Open banking in Belgium: reflections on a journey travelled

  • Time: 15h30-16h00
  • Location: 1. Louis Verhaegen
  • Level: Intermediate
  • Type: Keynote

Based on his experiences with the development of banking app Cake, Davy gives his view on the current state of open banking in the Belgian market. As a strong believer and advocate of open banking, his company faces a daily struggle and countless challenges to put this into practice. The European legislation PSD2 was supposed to pave the way for a flawless start. However, the reality six months after its implementation is different. And yet this path only reinforces the belief in open banking.

Hello I'm DAVY KESTENS

I’m the CEO and founder of Cake. At age 23 I moved to Silicon Valley, where I founded Sparkcentral, an enterprise customer service software company. This startup grew to over 100 people with over $45m in funding. In 2018, at age 30, I stepped down as the company’s CEO to build Cake, a free banking app that analyzes financial data to help people better understand, control and improve their personal finances. As a cherry on the cake we share our revenue with our users.
